The most effective method of removing ballpoint ink is to saturate the stain with hairspray, then blot the stain with an absorbent cloth. Continue spraying and blotting until you are no longer transferring ink to the cloth. If the stain is completely removed, apply a laundry pre-treat and launder as usual.

Some hairsprays, however, tend to leave a gummy residue on the clothing. If this starts to happen, discontinue use of hairspray and blot the remaining stain with isopropyl alcohol. If the stain remains, try dabbing turpentine onto the stain. Be sure to place a towel under the fabric to prevent the turpentine from spreading onto unstained areas. Relaunder as usual.
